This film charts the course of events in Tsavo over this critical period of conservation history in Kenya. It shows the sacrifices and heavy commitment made by African rangers and wardens to protect their elephants against armed bandits, and illustrates the scale of the slaughter brought about by the ivory trade.

This Film shows how the beetles have a unique relationship with the elephant, for it feeds on micro-organisms found only in elephant dung. Through a complex chain of events, this leads to the revival of the vegetation on which the elephant itself relies. And the only one predator which consistently attacks the beetles in their chambers below ground is the Honey Badger.

This film begins by illustrating what Tsavo's vegetation was like 30 years ago and follows the changes until 1992, by which time elephant feeding pressure had changed the thick Commiphora bushland to more open savannah. It records the terrible years of the early 1970s when very little rain and elephants had reached the maximum number that the vegetation could support.
